El príncipe Felipe, duque de Edimburgo y esposo de la Reina Isabel II, ha recibido sepultura este sábado en el Palacio de Windsor en una pequeña ceremonia familiar que ha sido retransmitida en directo por televisión. El funeral ha comenzado a las 15.40 (hora española), con la salida del féretro del castillo, seguido de una marcha fúnebre y un minuto de silencio en todo el país.
Después de un servicio en la Capilla de San Jorge a cargo del Decano de Windsor, el Arzobispo de Canterbury ha dado la bendición después de bajar el ataúd a la Bóveda Real.
De acuerdo con las regulaciones de salud actualmente vigentes en Inglaterra, solo 30 invitados han podido asistir a la ceremonia, la mayoría de ellos miembros de la Familia Real. El primer ministro británico, Boris Johnson, anunció precisamente la semana pasada que se excusaría del evento para permitir la entrada de más familiares y allegados.
Por descontado, la reina Isabel II, así como los cuatro hijos de la pareja, ocho nietos, la sobrina y el sobrino de la reina y tres de sus primos han asistido al servicio de este sábado. También lo han hecho los parientes alemanes del príncipe Bernhard, el príncipe heredero de Baden, el príncipe Donato y el príncipe Felipe de Hohenlohe-Langenburg y la condesa Mountbatten de Birmania, amiga cercana del príncipe Felipe.
Algunos de los cónyuges de los hijos y nietos de la reina se han incluido en la lista de invitados y Meghan, duquesa de Sussex y esposa del príncipe Harry, no ha asistido al funeral debido a su embarazo.
